CARE4Suffolk was prepared to present to the City of Suffolk Planning Commission on Tuesday, September 19, 2022. We organized to have more than 30 people show up and show support to stop the rezoning of Ellis Farm on Manning Road.
However, as the hour drew near, members of CARE4Suffolk heard it through the grape vine that the meeting was to be canceled. With hurried calls to city hall, we discovered that the meeting was still on, but the developer was asking for it to be tabled.
CARE4Suffolk showed up 50 people strong to City Hall. Members spoke with city employees and members of the Planning Commission and let it be known that we were prepared and wanted to have our voices heard.
We had less than two weeks from the point we first noticed the city’s NOTICE signs posted on the Ellis Farm until the meeting, but we still managed to prepare a solid opposition to the rezoning. The developer had months or longer to prepare his side but canceled last minute.
The Planning Commission voted unanimously to table the Ellis Farm rezoning item for 30 days.
We are going to double and triple our efforts to get the word out and have the citizens of Suffolk let city hall know how we feel. We want our voices heard.
