CARE4Suffolk Meeting

Last night at the Family Harvest Church on Manning Road, CARE4Suffolk met with a group of between 40-50 people to give updates on our progress so far, share important information about the October 18th Planning Commission Meeting, and to ask for assistance in the form of volunteers and donations to help cover costs.

In addition, guest speaker City Council Member LeOtis Williams from the Whaleyville Borough took the time to address the gathering and ask for the community’s concerns about the Ellis Farm rezoning request. Many members of the community shared their experiences about the unsafe conditions on Manning Road. One member pointed out that much of the land included in the 114 acres can’t be developed because of wetlands and the other portion is on the other side of the railroad tracks where utilities can’t be extended over the railroad tracks. Her point being that the developer is using a larger acreage but the houses will actually be built on a much smaller acreage with a significantly higher density.

Mr. Williams also shared information about the 2045 Comprehensive Plan that the city is currently working on and said that they are looking for citizen input. Many in the CARE4Suffolk community expressed interest in being involved and Mr. Williams said he would help make that happen.

CARE4Suffolk is asking its community to attend the Planning Commission Meeting on Tuesday, October 18th at 2pm. Please come early and wear your CARE4SUffolk shirt. We have speakers prepared to oppose the rezoning and we are hoping that the Planning Commission will not vote to table it again like they did last time.
